PROJECT PROFILE: MILLS RIVER SEWER PROJECTS |

|
Henderson County, NC
PROJECT CONTACT:Gary Tweed, County Engineer (828) 698-5101
PROJECT BUDGET: $2.8 Million |
|
PROJECT SPECIFICS: Complete cost estimating, design, permitting, bidding assistance, and construction administration for more than five miles of 8” to 24” gravity sanitary sewer lines. This project extended gravity sewer into the Mills River area of Henderson County. The gravity sewer will allow private owners to abandon four individual treatment facilities and various failing septic systems.
PROJECT CHALLENGES: Proper routing of the sewer line was critical due to the area’s very flat topography. The line also required a sub-aqueous crossing of the Mills River. A NEPA Environmental Assessment (EA) was prepared as required by Federal and State funding sources. Corps of Engineers, NCDENR, and NCDOT permits were also required.
William G. Lapsley & Associates helped the County prepare grant applications for the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Clean Water Management Trust Fund. Henderson County was awarded $500,000 from the Clean Water Management Trust fund as well as $1.5 Million in Federal monies. |
